3rd Quarter Calculus - AKA "Welcome to College, Kid."
At this point in my life, this class made me work the hardest I had in any academic subject yet. Reflecting back, I remember actually a moment after about 3 hours studying for a midterm thinking "I guess this is what college is like." Yes freshman Wylie, you were right - and those hours of study only increase in number.
Lucky enough for me, I really enjoy math, always have. Math 126 however posed a challenge because for some reason, the concepts at first glance were not at all easy to grasp; I couldn't visualize what was going on, which was an issue because I have to be able to see whats going on graphically, at least in my head, to fully understand something. I struggled for this class, starting problems over and over until I found the tiny conceptual mistake I was making over and over - and now I definitely am much more careful. Anything that revolves around mathematical calculations now I double, triple check each component before moving on. I learned the hard way that it's much more conducive to getting the right answer, and actually quicker, to problem solve this way. Thank you Ebru. (my 126 professor)
The culmination of this class, the final, is to date still one of the tests I'm most proud of. I killed it. For some reason that night I was in peak "math mode" and everything just clicked. Every concept was easy for me to see and visualize, and for every problem I quickly found the route to the answer. I ended up with a 95% on the final, after finishing 40 minutes before the deadline. I really realized the benefit of struggling with material, because the more you struggle all the more rewarding it is when you, ultimately and eventually, have that "clicking" moment. I love that feeling.
