Glaciers and rocks? Super Cool.
Did you know that all 7 of Seattle's hills, such as Capitol Hill or Queen Anne, are drumlins? Drumlins are made up of glacial till - ground up rocks, dirt, and sand - that form massive, oblong piles under fast moving ice sheets. During the Pleistocene Ice age, the topography of Seattle came to be how we see it today.
I loved this class. Not only did it leave me with a massive reserve of random geology/topography facts about the Pacific Northwest, but it gave me a chance to examine climate change as a physical manifestation - change in the world's ice reserves. This class coupled with Climate Change: An International Perspective, which I took concurrently made for a very interesting quarter in which I made a bunch of connections across disciplines I don't ever think I would have otherwise.
I definitely recommend this class. Fun, informative, and the only class I've taken so far that has had field trips, which is a definite plus.
